THINGS TO SEE & DO
Although The Hideaway Cottage is situated in a secluded valley in the heart of the North York Moors National park, it is not far from many restaurants, attractions and historic places to visit.
The nearest pub, The Horseshoe Inn’ is only 2.5 miles up the road in the village of Levisham. With a great variety of Beers, wines and spirits, it is also renowned for its excellent food. This traditional Inn serves a varied and seasonal menu, providing lunches and dinners to suit all tastes Open five days a week in the winter months and everyday otherwise.
Of course, ‘on your doorstep’ walking, hiking and cycling trails, in both the forest and over the moors, are what the majority of visitors enjoy in this unspoilt part of the country. But there are lots of places to visit too, including the Yorkshire coast, stately homes and the City of York.

The surrounding forests and moors have many excellent paths and bridleways for you to enjoy walking. Grab an OS map available in the cottage and head out with a flask and lunch. The North Yorkshire Moors National Park is unspoilt English beauty at its best!
North Yorkshire is renowned for its Mountain Biking trails. These range from gentle, short pleasure rides to ‘red run’ competition routes. So whatever our 2-wheel ability is, you can be sure to enjoy some of the UK’s best biking here.
The Hideaway is set in a valley surrounded by wildlife. If you are a nature lover chances are you’ll spot deer, badgers, stoats, rabbits and hares. As well as buzzards, goshawks, woodpeckers, jays and owls. to name but a few.
